Still undecided-baby girl coming soon!

DH and I need help deciding on our little girl's name. He prefers Scarlett, which I don't mind but don't love either. We both like Lucia ok, but I'm concerned about different pronounciations of that name. Our favorite is Lu-cee-ya. We also like Hanna, which has special meaning to me since it is my amazing grandmother's name. However, I'm afraid that Hannah Montanna ruined this name for our generation. Please let me know what you guys think of those names and how do you see a girl or a woman named like this. Our son's name is Jack...

TIA

Hi there.

My thoughts-

Scarlett-I like this, & I think that it works nice on a grown woman. I see it as kind of over dramatic in a sense though, & that's what would steer me away personally from using it. Also, the spelling Scarlet looks nicer imo. That is how the color is spelled, right?

Lucia-I love this! A distant family member had a Lucia in the fall who I just met the other night. She was just beautiful, & it made me realize even more that this name works really well on any age. I feel your concerns about the pronunciation issues though. The one I met is Loo-she-uh, but I personally like Loo-see-ya like you. How do you feel about Lucille or Lucinda or just Lucy? Those are more self explanatory. I love Jack & Lucy together.

Hanna-Well, I'm not sure that Hannah Montana ruined this. The show sure didn't help in the fact that it's convinced people to name their child Miley (yuck!), but Hannah is a classic name from the Old Testament. It is very popular though, & although I completely understand why you'd want to use the same spelling as your grandmother, it might get misspelled as Hannah often. It's very popular too, but if that doesn't bother you w/Jack's name (how dashing, by the way!), then it's fine. I think that in imagining a Hanna, she'd be soft spoken, intelligent, & very caring.

Hope this helps!

I like Hanna the best and I like the spelling. I haven't heard any little Hannahs popping up since the Hannah Montana show. It's a classic name.

Scarlett's nice. It doesn't really capture me, but it is certainly a fine name: feminine but not cutesy, grows up well.

Lucia is really lovely, but I wouldn't use it personally because people I despise the pronunciation LOO-shuh. And you absolutely will have people say it that way and have to correct them. That would ruin the name for me.

Don't worry about Hannah Montana. There are about a zillion Hannahs and Hannas, from babies to teens. IT's been a very popular name for quite some time now. So much so that most people won't think about Hannah Montana!

I like your choices.

Scarlett is my least favorite of the three as well, but still pretty. Nickname options: Lettie is cute; there is a Scarlett in my son's EC called Carly. (Actually there are at least 2 Scarletts in his EC.)

Lucia is gorgeous, and I prefer the same pronunciation as you. At one point I wanted to use Lucinda nn Lindy. DH's grandma is Lucy, and now one of the names I want to use is Rhoda Lucy (after his two grandmothers). As others have mentioned, Lucy and Lucille are also less likely to have pronunciation issues. All four are pretty names; I also like Luciana.

Hannah is my daughter's name. She's two. Only one person has mentioned Hannah Montana when they learned her name. I am also asked very often how to spell it (and some people mistake it for Hana). Honestly, I wished I had chosen a less popular name for a while, but I can't imagine her with any other name now.

I think Lucia is my favourite of your options. Scarlett is second and Hanna third. I have always liked the name Hanna/Hannah but it is a bit over-saturated for my taste.

Thanks for your opinions ladies! I was pretty much set on Hanna but thanks to you I came to appreciate the name Lucia as well. It's Dh's favorite and the big brother loves it too. Unless she looks like a total Hanna upon arrival her name will be Lucia Morgan!

Thanks for everything,

I absolutely love Hanna, and if we used it I would spell it the same because of family connections.

However, isn't there an animal guy named Jack Hanna? I don't know if that would bother you. I think Jack is a super handsome name and I think Hanna is adorable, and it probably wouldn't bother me, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.
