Twin boys named John and George:

Too matchy?
Too English?
Too Beatles?
Too boring?
Just meh?
Perfect?

If I had twin boys I would definitely want to name them John Ernest (after my grandfathers) and George Alfred (after DH's grandfathers).

John and George . . . These names are great in many ways.

I just have to giggle a bit because the lead character in The Importance of Being Earnest goes by Jack (John) in the country and Ernest in the city.

Yes, that had occurred to me... My sister's dog is named Ringo. I definitely wouldn't consider Paul, ever, for this reason.

I think they are classic and I love the family meaning. :)

And there's nothing wrong with the Beatles!! ;)

I like Earnest and Alfred better than John and George. They have more character.

Ernest always seems like an adjective, and our last name is an occupation name. If his name were Ernest John (Shepherd), Ernest John seems like a name and a modifier, and Ernest Shepherd seems like a business endorsement (it's not Shepherd, but you get the idea).

Alfred was DH's grandfather on his dad's side. That was Alfred Jr. DH has an uncle, Alfred III "Al." Alfred III's son is Alfred IV ("Alfie"). Alfie's son is--yup--Alfred V. AJ. So there's enough Alfred "Shepherd"s around, and I don't want to step on toes. We already have a III. I could see naming kids Benjamin Alfred II (after DH's brother) and Alfred James VI... but that's probably a poor idea. I might do Alfred for a redhead, and call him Red, but really George is better.
