So we're fairly settled on our first name if this baby is a girl...but the obvious nn is Ann/Annie/Anna.

What's the name? Maybe there's a less obvious nn, like Andi or Belle or Nettie? You bring up an interesting qualm, the sentence name. That is one thing I don't like about my favorite boy choice.

I think you are safe with this because when I say "an Emery" it sounds very different from "Ann Emery". The an and Ann are different enough not to be confused, kwim? Hope this helps.
