I have never known of a male with this name.

I have only heard of the name Lani, pronounced the same, for a girl.

For me, it sounds too feminine... but it isn't a family name for me. I am not sure how I would feel about it if it were my Uncle's name.

I've known a few guys called Lonnie, but I always assumed it was short for something, the way Lon Chaney was short for Leonidas. Admittedly, as a given name, it feels a bit...errr...how to put this kindly? Reminiscent of my hometown.

I grew up with a boy named Lonnie...though I'm sure it was short for something.

I know one that is in his seventies. I think of someone who is friendly, steady, quite a handyman, and knows a bit about everything. It's unexpected, but not strange. These are good qualities in a name, so overall I see why you like it. It is also nice that it is a family name for you.

LOL @ Dr. Kae. Agreed! My uncle was Kenny and he never set foot outside his hometown besides a trip to Florida in 1987.

I know a 5 yo Lonnie (given name) and his older brother is Diego. Parents are both German so maybe those names are fashionable in Germany?

It's not a favorite name for me, neither is Lennie which
