I know I should think of Blaise Pascal or some such when I see/hear this name, but despite the spelling an history of the name, I hear: Blaze, and I think: this is a horse's name. This is one of those names that I should like but just can't.
There's a Blaze on my April 08 board, I prefer the spelling Blaise, but I'm still not crazy about the name. (I can also say that after voluntering at a women's shelter, blaze is common slang for getting high, so that kind of does it for me).
We named our fourth baby Blaise. People usually either love or hate his name, no in between! No one comments anymore, but I could tell when he was born that some people weren't sure about his name.
We are Catholic, and we use a saint's name or version of it for the first or middle name. So, our Blaise was named after St. Blaise.
I know someone who recently named her baby Blaise. It's not exactly my style, but I think it can be cool in the right context.
