your opinion on this girls name..

I just found out that I'm having a girl and I'm so stumped for names.. A few days before I found out I was pregnant I had a vision/thought/daydream whatever that the baby told me its name was Noah.. so I assumed this was a boy, and pondered the possibility of using Noah since that's what *he* told me *his* name was... Then after I found out baby is a girl I thought well hm, what about Noa for a girl? I looked it up and found that it actually has it's own biblical history separate from the boy Noah, and it also is a Japanese name that means something like "my love"... It's also #1 girl name in Isreal, #8 in the Netherlands, #25 in Spain and on the charts in a few other places.. apparently.

So my hesitation is that a lot of people will confuse this for Noah the boys name, right? And I'm not generally a huge fan of unisex names or using boys names on girls, but at the same time technically this is a totally separate name in it's own right..

We're thinking of using dh's Moms name as a middle name, her name is Oritela so Noa Oritela..
We have a fairly long, spanish last name, so it works well with that as well. Ds is Gabriel.

Curious about your honest opinions!

It is very masculine. I wouldn't do it. How about Noelle?

GL deciding!

There's an Asian girl named Noa in my DS's class. I didn't like it at first, but it's grown on me. I think if it's meaningful to you, you should use it and not worry about what other people think.

I think Noa would be a sort of confusing name to have as your little girl starts to appear on class rosters or announced at graduation.

If Noah were less common, I think you'd be safe using Noa. As it is...I see a lot of room for confusion and the assumption that you were tacking a kre8tivleigh-spelled boy's name on your daughter. I know it's a valid name, but I'd pass.

On the dream front, I dreamt that I gave birth to an eighteen-pound toddler named Joey when I was pregnant with Penn. I chose to ignore that particular dream.

Yes, I suppose you're all right.. back to the drawing board. I'm having a rough time with this. I guess Nola is interesting.

We would like to use dhs mom's name (oritela) as a mn, although it's not an absolute...

names we like so far..

Lucia
Luisa
Jillian
Clementine (this is my grandmas name but it sounds terrible with oritela and I cannot think of a nice nickname)
Beatriz (I worry that ppl here wouldn't pronounce this correctly)

I love Clementine! You do have a point that it doesn't sound great with Oritela, though. Possible nicknames: Cleo, Em, Emma, Emmy/Emmie, Tina, Mina, Lemmie.

Lol about your dream. When I was pregnant with Corban I had a dream that we had a boy and named him August, I hated the name back then and now love it. Funny how it grew on me. This time I've already had a dream that we had a girl and named her Amelia. I like Amelia and dh does as well but I think it's becoming too mainstream for us. I do hope the baby girl vision means something....

I hope so, too...I think it would be sweet to add a little girl to your lineup.
