Is Ace a good first name?

What do you think about the name Ace? My husband and I are both very athletic and can just picture our son playing sports. We know the name Ace is very different, but we just picture an adorable little boy with a baseball hat on, learning to walk, etc. We don't like the common Chris, Jason, etc...but is Ace TOO uncommon?

Ace is ok to me.
I might give him the name Asa with nn Ace as another option for you.

Possible combos:

Ace Chandler **
Ace Patrick
Ace Daniel
Ace Harrison
Ace Cole
Ace Garrett
Ace Hunter
Ace Palmer
Ace Dominic
Ace Scott
Ace Jaxson

or

Asa Gavin
Asa Drake
Asa Pierce
Asa Roman
Asa Thomas
Asa Ross
Asa Steven
Asa Harrison
Asa Parker
Asa James (nn Ace, AJ)

I agree with Donna, its a cute and not too out there name, but I think I would like it better as a nn. Of the combos she gave, I like

Asa Gavin
Asa James
Ace Chandler
Ace Patrick

I agree with others that it's not bad, but I don't care for it as a formal name -- more as a nickname. I like Trace or Mason or something like that better than Asa, which sounds like an old man to me, but I know it's gaining in popularity.

You say you can picture "Ace" as an adorable little boy learning to walk, etc. Can you also picture him graduating from college, starting to work, getting married, etc. as an "Ace"? If so, then it might just be the name for you to use.

Good luck!

Ace is OK for a nickname, but I think as a formal name it is limiting. You can't really predict what kind of child you have. He may be more of the bookworm type.

I like it much better as a nn, it seems cute on a kid, but I can't see it growing into a man. Some possible names Ace could be a nn for:

Jason
Chase
Wallace
Jase

Ace is spunky! I like it a lot, & totally agree w/you on a sporty little fitting the name Ace perfectly. Of course, there's always a possibility that he won't be into sports. In any case, I'm sure your son will mold into whatever name you give him & not the other way around. Hope this helps!

Sounds like a cutesy nn. So no I wouldn't advise it.

It's kinda cool. I could see it better as a nickname, but I can't think for what.

I think that if you really like the name Ace then you should use it. I agree that it is a great name for a little boy. When I named my daughter I had NEVER heard of the name that my husband had picked out but I just loved it. (Her name is Timbre-Lynn, sounds like TIMBER) To this day I have never come across another Timbre and I like it that way, it keeps her original. So I say if you like Ace then go with it. Good Luck!
