Is Ace a good first name?

What do you think about the name Ace? My husband and I are both very athletic and can just picture our son playing sports. We know the name Ace is very different, but we just picture an adorable little boy with a baseball hat on, learning to walk, etc. We don't like the common Chris, Jason, etc...but is Ace TOO uncommon?

I think Ace is a great name and it's not too uncommon. I can see a sporty little guy running around named Ace - good choice.

What happens if he's not athletic? I know more than a few athletic couples with bookworm ("nerdy") children. He may resent the name if that's the case. I think it's a nice NN, but please give him a formal name so that he has options.
I myself have a 13 monthold daughter and another on the way. Names can be hard to choose!

Good Luck whatever you choose!

Ace is a nickname, and usually a mocking one at that.
Kid trips over his shoelaces... "Good going, Ace!"
I advise against it.
I really like Wallace nn Ace and have suggested it for a few people where it seems to fit.
Hi!
Ace is a neat nn for an athletic boy...but just because you guys are athletic doesn't mean he will be. Thirty years ago, my very trendy parents named me Sienna. Unfortunately, I'm definitely NOT a Sienna, and although I love my parents very much, I wish they had given me a more traditional name (I teach young children and lecture about child development at the local community college, and sometimes it's hard toget people to take me seriously, as they assume I'm a blonde fashionista). Ace would work well for a child with above average athletic ability, or even above average computer skills...but if his thing ends up being biology, music, or anything basically except sports and computers, he (and you) could be in for a rough time.
Please...for the sake of a child not like her parents...don't 'officially' call him Ace.
