Our last name begins with P so this is out of the question for us. But if that weren't the case it would definitely be on my list. I also love Persephone but that's a little bit less accessible.

If you & dh love a name use it no matter what anyone else says. Take it from me - you'll regret it if you don't!

I love it. Keep in mind that some may try to call her Penny, which may be fine with you.

Penelope is an utterly charming name!!! Please don't be afraid to use it, especially as both you and your husband love it. It has such incredible style, but it's very classic.

So far, the results of the poll are pretty encouraging. I think most people will be charmed when you tell them your baby's name. Of course, some won't, but they probably don't have your style anyway.

Good luck. Please let us know what you decide.

Thanks for the feedback so far, ladies... I still have a ways to go (March!) and I'm not sure what I'm having (I know they are twins, but that is it!).

I've loved the name Penelope since college-- I was a Greek and Latin major, so classics/mythology was my thing. We're still thinking about it. I think if we didn't need to worry about what people thought we would use it, but it is a very "different" name.

My sister's name is Penny. Not Penelope just plain Penny. Penny is cute for a nn but is not a real name. I MUCH prefer Penelope as a given name. It isn't my fave but if someone introduced their daughter to me as Penelope I would think it was adorable.

I think it's really really pretty! There was a movie with a character named Penelope and somebody on the movie kept calling her Pee-nu-lope and nobody ever corrected him! It was so funny but in an endearing way and remembering it makes me smile :)

So, you have to pick two girl names and two boy names for your twins! Any other considerations?? :)

Good Luck!!

I was going to choose that I loved it, too, but I choose other instead. That is because I love the name Penelope, however, I'm not very fond of the name Penny - no offense to anyone named Penny or who loves the name Penny. That just my opinion. So, I while I love the name Penelope, you'd have to take into consideration people's propensity to shorten names into nicknames. If you like the nickname Penny, then great.

I'm used to having my name (Pamela) shortened to Pam, even when I say my name is Pamela, so this is a sore topic for me!

Best of luck,

Pamela
