What do you think of when you hear the name ANGELINA?
Angelina Jolie? A little angel?
This name has increased in popularity drastically in the last 5 years...
Do you think it is becoming too popular/trendy?

I like the name Angelina -
I didn't think it has become too popular.
People might be using it more

***The name Angelina ranked 98th in popularity for females of all ages in a sample of 2000-2003 Social Security Administration statistics and 414th in popularity for females of all ages in a sample of the 1990 US Census.

I like Angelina! I like the thought of calling her "my little angel" but I think it has rised in popularity ever since Angelina Jolie became a superstar

Angelina makes me think Jolie first and Ballerina second (the book mouse). I'm not personally fond of any of the Angel names as almost every "Angel" I meet is a holy terror. But it is a lovely name. I checked SSA and it's risen quite a bit in the last 10 years:

2004 - 60
2003 - 71
2002 - 75
2001 - 94
2000 - 157
1999 - 238
1998 - 268
1997 - 270
1996 - 310
1995 - 303

So I'd classify it as a bit trendy at the moment as it's never been higher on the charts as it is now and it's gotten to the top fairly quickly considering it was in the high 300's only 10 years ago.

My youngest is Angelina. Even though it's moving up the SSA list, I've yet to actually meet another Angelina. With three girls I go to lots of playgroups, sports, kids classrooms etc, and was actually suprised there isn't another. But there is an Angelica in my 3rd graders class, she goes by Angie. My dd goes by the nickname Gina.

My dd is named after Angelina Ballerina, my older two girls picked it and basically insisted it was her name. Dh and I tried to pick something else, but in the end after hearing Angelina for months we decided that yes, it sounded like her name :)

That name was on our final 5 up to last week. Yes, everyone will think of Angelina Jolie no doubt- it is getting popular. Our reason for not picking it is are n0ot the other two reasons but because we feared it would not age well. We met someone last week whose name was Angelina- a friend of my mom- and frankly it was a turn off to have such a cute name on an older person. the "ina" ending here is an endearing way of saying "little one" in italian. Me being Spanish descent- we *know* that is what ot means and it just didn't sound right to us. But not sure if every american would think that way (I'm american- but grew up til high school in europe). The other thing to consider is that the nicknames could be Angel or Angie.
