Hi
a meal-ee is the pronounciation I will be using.Does that still make it German? I'm just confusing myself now lol
Thanks
Elliot

Well the name itself IS German, so that won't change. ;) The "mee" middle syllable actually sounds more like the French pronunciation of AMÉLIE (don't know how to type the accent on here, so forgive the all caps cut-and-paste LOL). The middle syllable of that is said like "may," so I'd assume the parents were going for that and weren't sure of the exact pronunciation.
If it helps, I think you're wanting to pronounce the beginning Ame- like the start of Amelia, but the German pronunciation of that calls for a short "e," rather than "ee," as well. It'd be more like ah-MEL-ya than a-MEEL-ya, if you really wanted the German form, KWIM?
Here's a link to BTN if you want to see some of the other forms and pronunciations written out: http://www.behindthename.com/php/search.php?nmd=n&terms=amelie+amelia+amalia+amalie

Hi
thanks for the link.I'm wanting to pronounce it like Amelia but without the a ending if you know what I mean.Do you think my daughter could be in for a lifetime of mis-pronounciation?
thanks
Elliot
Well, I do. (think your daughter will be pronouncing her name forevermore) She'll just have to introduce herself first, spell her name later :)
I'm glad your pronunciation issue came up because I like Ah-MEE-lee Giselle way better than AHH-meh-lee Giselle.
:o)
