I really love Paige. Lorelei is kind of a mouthful--a very pretty mouthful! But when paired with a really long middle name, such as Evangeline, it just feels like too much to me. I love the 3-1-2 syllabbic rhythm.

Weren't you considering Christian for a future son and worried about it "going" with Lorelei? If so, Evangeline is a perfect choice! Lorelei Evangeline and Christian (mn) Thomas. Not matchy, not too obvious, but still a connection. Nice. ;)

Kelli -Exactly! I thought the name itself was a nice connection to Christian. However, I am concerned about the lengthiness. Lorelei Evangeline is a bit of a mouthful, I suppose. I'm also wondering if I should "save" Evangeline to use for another girl's name later on. Lorelei, Evangeline and Christian sound kind of nice together, IMO. It's the only girl's name I've found so far that I like with Lorelei. It's kind of exotic but not overly so. It's a nice balance of exotic and traditional.

What are your thoughts about the lengthiness of Lorelei Evangline and the idea of "saving" it for later (I know, I probably think way too far ahead)?

No, you're not thinking too far ahead. Putting some serious thought into your kids' names is a good thing. ;)

My feeling is, if you really like both Lorelei and Evangeline ... use them now!

If it were simply a question of boxing yourself out of using a similar name in the future, I'd tell you not to use it. For example, if you'd always planned on naming a boy Alexander, you probably shouldn't use Alexis for a girl (at least not if you're planning on having more children). You're not getting to use the actual name you love, and you're pretty much guaranteeing you never will.

For me, though, this is entirely the opposite. You like both names, and you have no guarantee you'll ever have another girl or that Evangeline will even be your first choice if you do. Not saying you won't still like the name, but you may stumble on something else that seems a perfect sister for Lorelei by then. If that happened and you never got to use it at all, would you regret not using it as a mn?

As to the issue of length, I much prefer a longer name -- especially one that still flows well and consists of two names I really love -- to one that seems abrupt or contains a short "filler" mn simply to address the lengthiness problem, KWIM? I suppose that's how I ended up with an Abigail Fiora (and yes, I still love her name ... all of it). ;)
