DH and I are Stephanie Renee and Frederick Scott. (DH goes by his mn.)
Our DDs have family names in the mn slot -- DH's aunt and my maternal grandmother.
Our DDs are biological, but baby #3 will be adopted and likely African-American/biracial.
Because our last name is difficult, we like names that aren't difficult to spell or pronounce. DH doesn't care how common a name is, but I'd prefer it to not be in the top 10. His current favorite is John (nn Jack), and he generally vetoes my favorites although he did perk up a bit when I mentioned Dominic.
John was my maternal grandfather's name, and he had no mn. My uncle did not have any kids, so no one carries on the family last name either.
Paul and Pauline are DH's maternal grandparents, and Paul is also my dad's mn. I'd really love to use this one if it sounds good with the fn. Unfortunately, John Paul is a bit too Catholic for me (even though we are Catholic). ;-)
I'd love more suggestions if anyone has them as well!
Thanks,
Stephanie
I voted for Maxwell John. It's the MJ initial thing again I already commented on in your girl poll.
Terra.
I do like Maxwell John, and DH likes Max, but I'm not sure he's thrilled with Maxwell, so we'll have to see. He hates last names as first names. Max on its own is a bit too short for me since I tend to prefer something with a nn, and Maximus and Maximilian are a little too much with our ln. :-)
I also worry a bit about the popularity of Max with new baby boys *and* dogs. Every time, I read through these names, I keep changing my mind b/c I really like them all!

Well, I guess I should say that I have a secret love of Teddy as a nn for a tiny baby. I know it's extremely cutesy, but he could be my "Teddy Bear"! :-)
I called my older DD Meggie-bear for a little while until other people picked up on it and started calling her Meggie, which I hated! So I broke that habit very quickly!
If I used Teddy at all, it would just be my special nn when he was tiny. And of course, he'd have the option of being Ted/Teddy when he got older even if we called him Theo/TJ, and I do like having lots of nn options. I never used to like initials as nicknames, but they've really grown on me lately, and I find myself looking for a name with initials that work.
You don't think Theo is too "Cosby Show", is it? Especially if we adopt a child who is black? I just don't want people to think that that's why we picked it, especially since our name starts with H and is 3 syllables long just like Huxtable (even though it sounds nothing like it).
Thanks again for your input!
Stephanie
Thanks! Theo is growing on me more and more, so I hope I can DH to at least consider it. We already have friends with a baby Leo, so even though we don't see them much, I don't feel like we could use it. Thanks for the suggestion, though!
Stephanie
Ooh, I kinda like that. I might have to test it out a while. You don't think it's too biblical next to Megan and Julianna/Annie, though? That's one of my concerns with Isaiah -- that it has such a different feel.
