I love Nathaniel and I know that Asa is biblical, etc, but do you not worry about ass jokes? I think that maybe something like Jonah, Elijah/nn Eli, or Ezekiel/nn Zeke would be nice.
I guess that occasionally, boys will be boys. However, I'm not overly concerned about "ass" jokes. The previous comment about the flow of the name got me thinking a little. However, I don't think that is too bad, either. The "AY-suh" would flow into "naa-THAN-iel". It seems to me to be subtlely different sounds in the two names.
I think the flow is fine. I'm just not a fan of the name Asa. Even though I know it's a boy's name, the A ending gives it a more feminine sound, IMO, especially when several of his classmates will be named Ava. Also, it doesn't help that the only Asa I've ever known was a slightly cocky computer geek -- nice enough, I guess, but doesn't give me the best association with the name, if YKWIM.

I really love the name Asa. It was on our list for awhile until DH decided he didn't like it anymore. People either loved it or hated it--the majority didn't like it. But, then I realized I didn't really care...lol. I think Asa Nathaniel sounds great together! I think of a handsome little boy when I picture an Asa. Plus, I think it's a name that ages well.
I don't really like the flow of the -sa Na- sounds back-to-back, although both names are fine on their own.

Any other thoughts?

I agree with the comment that with Ava becoming so popular for girls, Asa sounds a little girly even though it's a good, old-fashioned man's name.
