Camilla?

  • Yes! Great name!
  • I really like it for someone else, but could never bring myself to use it.
  • I think of the whole Charles/Camilla tampon comment, so NO!
  • The tampon comment wouldn't have occurred to me, but now that's ruined it.
  • I've never liked the name, but not because of the Charles and Camilla thing.

Oh, Lord. I figured we'd all heard this one...if the suggestion of a tampon comment didn't ruin it for you, the story itself probably will. Anyway, allegedly, Prince Charles made some comment to Camilla about how he wished he could be her tampon so that he could be...um...close to her all the time. Ick!

I'm not considering the name myself. But, a friend of mine from class just loves the name, and we were discussing whether or not this story has killed any good connotation the name may have ever had.

I really like Camilla (and I love Camille as a middle name -- I suggest it all the time). It's not one I'd use for myself since it would stick out like a sore thumb with my traditional Irish names, but I still like it a lot. I do think of Camilla Parker-Bowles, but I had forgotten about the tampon story. If she's really worried about it, I'd suggest using Camille. It's very pretty and without the association.

Ick! Well, I'd never heard that before, and it still didn't kill Camilla for me. Wasn't Camilla also the name of one of Gonzo's chickens on the Muppets? That's what I think of. :-)

Honestly, I personally wouldn't use Camille or Camilla, but I think they're great names with great nn potential -- Cami or Millie. I think Camilla would be adorable on a little girl.

I like Camilla and truly love Camille, especially in the French pronunciation (I've been trying to think how to spell it phonetically, but the vowel sounds just aren't the same as English). Another alternative would be Camellia, a name that has seen more literary than real-world use, I think, but does blend both with the current popularity of Amelia and the trend toward Victorian flower names. It's both strong and elegant, to my ear, and more distinctive than Rose, Lily, or even my favourite, Violet.
