Hmm...I am just not sure about this one - I would definitely go with a common name for her middle name - 1. so that people know the gender 2. if she hates her first name and wants another option. What I do like about Alabama is that she can always use the nn Ally. Good luck!

I'm sorry, but this doesn't strike me as simply a unique name the parents could have fallen in love with. It sounds very uneducated and, to be honest, a bit too "lower-class sex trade" (Alabama Jones is a pretty well-known pornographic spoof on the Indiana Jones series). So not my favorite.

Hi - I like the name Alabama for a girl, but for a specific girl, it would depend on her last name. I love combinations of very unusual names with common last names, like 'Alabama Jones', 'Alabama Smith', 'Alabama Thomas.' If the name turned out to something like 'Alabama Schoenbachler' I'd say it wouldn't work as well. I admire your bold choice, though! Oh - and just in case she feels self-conscious about her first name at some point in her life (and I did even with something as relatively common as 'Katerina - my own last name is a tongue-twister), give her a common middle name she can use in case. Now that I think of it, she could use the nickname 'Ali' too. Just my two cents - good luck! Trina

I like it. I'm a big Zelda Fitzgerald (Save Me the Waltz) fan, though, so I'm biased. Allie/Ali would be a handy nn, or even Bama or Bam-bam (how cute) for a just-among-family nn.

One caveat: don't use this name if your ln is Jones. A quick google search will tell you why.

My ex wanted to name our daughter (had we had one) Alabama. He said that it was a beautiful state that he never got to spend enough time in, so he'd like to name a daughter after it. I wasn't too keen on the idea. He also wanted the nn to be Ali, which I HATE, so I said the only way I would go for Alabama as a name was if we called her something else, lol... I thought maybe Bambi, since that's what his family calls a much-loved aunt of his... but I don't have to worry about that anymore, since we've been broken up for a while. Now the Alabama controversy will be some other woman's headache.

Well, I love that state but I do not see it as a name. Shanna Barker (MTV>Meet the Barkers/dancing w/stars) named her little girl Alabama, I think she is around 9mos. old. I think w/ many names people will either love it or hate it. I am not sure it is a likeable one.
Good luck!
