Did you bring more than one name to the hospital? How did you finally decide?

  • Yes, we took more than 1 name to the hospital and chose after the baby was born
  • No, we picked one name out beforehand and stuck with it
  • We picked a name out beforehand but changed it last minute at the hospital

My DH and I took two names to the hospital formy DD Caitlyn Rose and Elizabeth Marie. And when she was born my husband said that she was a Catie. I think we will do the same thing with our next child because it worked so well.

p.s. There are reasons that we spelt Caitlyn with a different spelling it isn't just random.

With my first his name was set from 6 months pregnant and never changed.

With my second we couldn't decide absolutely, so we took a short list to the hospital. After he was born I called out the name that popped into my mind and that was his name. I now wish that I had allowed dh more input, but I had just pushed this child out and wasn't much concerned with equality right then. By the time I was less emotional dh agreed with the name.

With the next one I hope to have the name set before birth, but we'll see.

Our boy name was so easy, we both liked it and my DH goes by part of his given middle name of Benton as "Ben" and we both loved Benjamin.

With DD#1, we took 3 names to the hospital -- Madeline, Caralyn, and Megan. The mn (Joy) was already decided in honor of DH's aunt. Madeline had been practically set in stone for the first 2/3 of the pregnancy until DH decided he wasn't sure about it anymore and didn't really like the nn Maddie. I also had found out how common it was, especially when grouped with the super-popular Madison. We still liked it, but started a new list.

I suggested Megan about 2 weeks before my due date, but Madeline was still my favorite. I think DH liked Caralyn, nn Cara, the best, but the possibility of the nn Meg was growing on him.

After 30 hours of labor, I ended up with a c-section, and after they pulled DD out, the nurses said, "So, what's her name?" I was very out of it, but DH blurted out, "Megan Joy!" It was perfect, and we haven't looked back since.

With DD#2, the *only* name we could agree on was Julianna, so we didn't have any back-up names going to the hospital. We didn't say Julianna was it until she was actually born, though, since we figured there was always a chance we could change our minds once we saw her. (The middle name, May, was also already decided in honor of my grandmother.)

Stephanie, mom to Megan Joy (nn Meg) and Julianna May (nn Annie)

It took us the whole 9 mos. to come up with DD Lindsey-(mn's are family names). We were set when we went to the hospital. But after a super long labor, 2 hours of pushing, then finally a C-section---- I saw my baby and didn't think she looked like a Lindsey and wanted to change it. She looked like a formal older lad and I thought she should be a Margaret (sorry to anyone named Margaret, just not a name I would have normally chosen). Luckily my dh refused and said she's already Lindsey. I was SO DRUGGED, TIRED and OUT OF MY MIND I didn't know what I was thinking- and now she looks just like a LIndsey and I love it. There's no way I could have made a rational decision at that time.
Hopefully we'll come up with something to name this baby before she's born....
