Dilemma with Jamie

I really like the name Jameson, but I think it's too masculine for a girl even though we'd call her Jamie. I wouldn't mind naming my son Jameson, but I don't really like the nn Jamie for a boy?

Here is the question: 1) Can Jameson/Jamison be a girl's name? 2) Is Jamie too feminine for a boy's nickname?

I know there are plenty of men named Jamie and that it was originally a male name, but I think lately it has gone to the girls. Any opinions would be appreciated.

I LOVE the name Jamie for a boy! Jameson on a boy would be really cute, although having it on a girl is just okay. A little masculine, nms. Maybe just Jamie or Jaime as a full name, no need to use it as a nickname.

Jameson is a name I have considered for my next son. Definitely not for a girl, though. I considered Jameson nn Jamie for a boy and just plain Jaimie for a girl. I think Jamie is a fine nickname for a boy! I know the Desperate Houswives actor James Denton goes by the nn Jamie!

For a girl, I would give her the name Jamie. I'm not a huge fan of nn for full names, but I really like this name, and it rhymes with Amy, which is a full name, so I think it's fine. :-) I don't think you need to "back into" a full name like Jameson for a girl just to get to Jamie. I do know a family with French-Candadian origins who have a daughter with the full name Jacqueline. Her nn is Jamie because her full name is the female version of James in French.

For a boy, I personally wouldn't use Jameson unless it was a family name. It's too last-namey for me. I would use James, though, and call him Jamie. I love the name James.

I love the name Jamie, either as a girls full name or as a boy's nickname. Growing up, my best guy friend was named James, nicknamed Jamie. Jameson is nms tho. Definitely not for a girl. Jamie will be a great name tho!

I think Jameson works for a boy for sure. My husband and I were considering Jameson for our 2nd sons middle name, but ended up choosing something else. I still like the name, and I would not shorten it to Jaime either, its a fine name by itself without the nn!

Good luck with whatever you choose! Just go with what your feelings tell you to do!

First off, Jameson is very masculine in my opinion. Plus, it's a LAST name not a first name. It means son of James!! Jamie can be a girl and boy's name. I think it's cute for a boy but then again I like so-called feminine names for boys Jules, Gabriel, and Jamie.

However, in this day and age, you can do pretty much what you want with a name. If you want Jameson for a girl, go for it. Just keep in mind your daughter might think it too boyish:) I'm Erica and I hated that my name was a boy's name with an 'a' slapped on the end.

I think Jameson is definitely too masculine for a girl. Jamie would be fine for a girl.

My grad school class had 3 Jamies in it. 2 were female and 1 was male. These are all people who are now in their late 20s to 30s. I didn't think it was weird for a man or a woman.

I am glad to see that I am not alone! We are going through the great name debate for our 2nd daughter (1st is MacKenzie Grayce). I like Jaymisen Rhyse or Jaymisen Jean, but have made the mistake of asking opinions, something I didn't do the first time around. Personally, I don't like the nn Jamie but if my daughter does then her friends can call her that.
Good luck, go with your gut! I know I am.
