Dilemma with Jamie

I really like the name Jameson, but I think it's too masculine for a girl even though we'd call her Jamie. I wouldn't mind naming my son Jameson, but I don't really like the nn Jamie for a boy?

Here is the question: 1) Can Jameson/Jamison be a girl's name? 2) Is Jamie too feminine for a boy's nickname?

I know there are plenty of men named Jamie and that it was originally a male name, but I think lately it has gone to the girls. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Sorry, still trying to figure this message board thing out, accidently responded to one of your responses.

I am glad to see that I am not alone! We are going through the great name debate for our 2nd daughter (1st is MacKenzie Grayce). I like Jaymisen Rhyse or Jaymisen Jean, but have made the mistake of asking opinions, something I didn't do the first time around. Personally, I don't like the nn Jamie but if my daughter does then her friends can call her that.
Good luck, go with your gut! I know I am.

In my opinion, Jamie is on the feminine side. I think it's pretty. Jameson, on the other hand, is definitely on the masculine side as are all names that end in "SON"---otherwise they would end in "daughter"! Madison is really the only exception thanks to "Splash".

I had a friend as a child named J'aime (Jamie). Her parents thought it was cute to mimic "I love you" in French :)

Hi! I'm a Jayme. That is my full name, and I think it's fine like that on a girl, and it isn't real popular right now, if that is something that bothers you. I don't like Jameson on a girl, though. James or Jameson is very cute on a boy, however, and Jamie is a cute nn for a boy. Not feminine at all. The one thing I have always had hangups over my name about is that it doesn't feel girly, and I was always a very girly girl. I am still very feminine with not a single drop of tomboy in me, anywhere. Giving me the "y" spelling helped a lot to make it feel more feminine, but no one sees the y if they just hear the name. I have come to appreciate my name, now, but I didn't like it growing up. In jr high, I even opted to go by my mn which is Leanne. It still didn't totally fit me, but it was better. I think I would've made a great Michelle. Anyway, those are my thoughts about Jamie, coming from a Jayme.

Jacqueline, as I'm sure you know, is the female form of Jacques. Jacques is the French form of both Jacob and James. Jacob comes from the Latin Jacobus, and James is from the Latin Jacomus.

Well, I like it for a boy... but to be honest it makes me think Jenna Jameson for a girl... not the best pic... but she will be old and gross by the time you J would be bigger. Just my intial reaction on it.
