Keep your opinions coming! I know it's a name not everyone will like, just like not everyone likes any name. We love that it's a saint's name, which is why we like the original spelling Blaise best.

I can almost say "I LOVE it", but not quite! LOL, I wish I could, though. I don't know what it is...see, I like that it's a saint name, and I like the blessing of the throats idea... I also like that it sounds like "blaze", as in fire, but it spelled differently, so as not to be so "word-ish" rather than "name-ish". But the spelling "Blaise" (even though it is the correct spelling) looks a little "soft" to me...that's why I can't say I "LOVE" it. And it's so hard, b/c usually I'm a stickler for spelling things correctly, so it's not even like I want to say, well, what about "Blaize"? Besides, that reminds me of the word "blazer" (like a jacket, lol). It also reminds me of Blair from The Facts of Life. I know, I have wacky associations, lol.

I guess I'd have to say go with the original spelling. I think it's a great name!!

Best wishes!

Definitely go with the original Blaise.. much classier overall. I can quite imagine a businessman named Blaise but have a harder time imagining one named Blaze.. KWIM? Blaze, to me is a horse, Blaise is a person.

JMHO, as always

Devin

ETA.. I voted LOVE Blaise! (and I do.. I just added it to my list of boys!) ~D

Oh my gosh, you guys are too funny. I actually have thought about the spelling "Blaize," but I usually don't go for creative type spellings. I think that the "z" in the name makes me think more of blazing fire, LOL, though. IF this baby is a boy and IF he's like his daddy, that would be appropriate for his temper, LOL!!!

We are a very Catholic family, at least on dh's side, but for some reason have never named our kids strictly after saints. Each kiddo has a name that is a saint's name or a version of a saint's name, but it wasn't really planned. All of our kids have had horrible GERD (acid reflux), so I think we're hoping that a little help from St. Blaise (patron saint for throat ailments) might keep this one healthy, LOL.

Devon, maybe you'll have a little Blaise someday. :) Unfortunately, I keep adding names I like to my list instead of subtracting any. I guess I like Blaise because it does sound very different...it's very masculine, but is a little soft at the same time.

We also still have Seth Adrian on our boy's list, which I also love. For some reason, I just hesitate to use it, I have no idea why. I just wish this kiddo would get here!!!!

Then we would know if it's a Britta, Blaise, or Seth!!!!

I prefer the spelling of Blaze. Would also think it works better as a mn. JMO.

OK, I guess everyone's answered my question, which is how is it pronounced in American English. I've only ever heard it used in France where it's Blez, which sounds good in French but not good here. (Look up Blaise Pascal if you've never heard of him--maybe your son will be really smart, too. ;-) ) I like it pronounced Blaze but spelled Blaise. I agree, Blaze is a horse. I love the idea of naming your son after the patron saint of throat ailments to guard against reflux. I say go for it.

It's excellent if you want him to become a career pot smoker!
