Do you like Gwen/Gwyn in it's shortened version or as a nn for Gwyneth?

It doesn't matter one way or the other for me. I could go either way.

I don't mind Gwen alone, but I think Gwyneth is just a beautiful name! You might also like Gwenna.

I do think Gwen can stand alone (I especially don't mind it as a short, sweet mn), but I definitely prefer Gwyneth or another formal version as the given name.

If nothing else, it gives her options. Maybe she'll have a Gwen and/or Gwendolen in her class and want to use Gwyneth on her projects/homework to differentiate. She might go through a phase where she thinks Gwen sounds too "something," and prefer Gwyneth. Or maybe she'll just like having a longer form to use on resumes and such. You never know. Using Gwyneth leaves it up to her. ;)

I'm always in favor of giving kids more choices for when they get older and I usually prefer longer names so I voted for Gwyneth.

I think Gwen is perfect on it's own! I am not into options.. My full name is Christine, and I have never used it that way!! If you don't plan on calling your child the full name I think you should use the shorter version. Trust me it will make their time in school easier!!!! Have you thought of middle names?????????

I'm generally in favor of giving kids longer names, too, so that they have options. However, in this case, Gwen and Gwyneth are both perfectly fine names on their own -- just different styles. (It's kinda like Jill and Jillian to me -- both are fine on their own even though Jill can be a nn for Jillian.) I see Gwyneth as slightly frillier and Gwen as more solid, but they're both great.

I had a good friend in high school, and she actually spelled her name Gwenn, so even though I know that Gwen is the traditional spelling, Gwenn looks so pretty and complete to me. FWIW, the Gwenn I know was smart, athletic, and very well-liked. I have a great association with the name.

DH prefers Gwen, and I'm kind of ambivalent on the issue. I have absolutely no idea about mn's. Most of the fn's on my top list have been two syllable or longer (Eden, Lorelei, etc.). I don't really know what goes well with a one syllable fn.

Hello,

I love the name Gwen, and if I have a girl in July that shall be her name. I still sometimes struggle between Gwen and Gwendolyn, though I know it will inevitably get shortened to Gwen, so I'm thinking of going that route.

As for middle names, I like the name Elise. I think Gwen Elise has a nice sound to it, what do you think? It's really hard to come up with a good middle name that sounds good with Gwen I've noticed!

Good luck!

Ah,..."Gwyneth"....a name I have never liked, although I like the actress Gwyneth Paltrow enough.
The only "Gwen" name I like at all is:

"Guinnovere", as in, yes, the Arthurian legend......

I believe, if I am not mistaken, that the name means "white-complected" or something to that effect.

"Ivorry Guinnovere" is a cool-kind-of-a-weird name, and since they both mean "white", they seem naturally ironic mates....;-)

I prefer it as a nickname too. If you aren't really fond of Gwyneth, there's also Gwendolyn. I knew 2 little girls with that name a few years ago and thought it was really cute. One went by Gwen and the other went by Wendy.
