I voted yes, but I actually only like it as a middle name. I don't generally like virtue names, especially as first names. But I do like Joy as a middle name. I think it's simple and pretty (and not as preachy as some virtue names -- Faith, Charity, Chastity, etc). Also, I tend to believe that one-syllable names ALWAYS flow better as middle names. It would be VERY easy to find a first names that flowed well with Joy. But it would be much more challenging to find a middle name to pair with it.
I voted no, because although I like it just fine as a mn, it's really a lot to live up to if it's the name you use every day, KWIM?
For example, I've known two women named Joy ... one a close friend, and the other my MIL! ;) And while both can be great people (don't get me wrong LOL), joy is often the last word people would use to describe them. Not because they're NEVER happy or anything like that, but they are both very stubborn, pessimistic, don't-take-crap-from-anyone kind of women. So much so that people often tease them about their names "really" being Joy. ;) On the other hand, my sister's name is Dara Joy, and she rather likes having it as a mn.
My DD is Megan Joy, and I like it as a mn. To be honest, I wasn't thrilled with it at all at first, but DH really wanted to use it. He has an Aunt Joy who he has always adored (and she didn't have any kids of her own) -- she's smart, fun, silly, and generally a "joy" to be around. She *does* live up to her name. ;-)
Anyway, I like it now as a mn, and I love that I don't know anyone else with Joy as a fn or mn. It's still not my favorite as a first name, though.

I agree with pp- I think it's perfectly fine as a middle name- but don't really care for it as a fn.
