Hi everyone.. I wanted to get your opinion..
My Grandmothers name is Lily, she is the most wonderful person on earth and I would LOVE to name my daughter after her, mostly because of honor, but I also LOVE the name...
The problem is DH's grandmothers name was Rose, and he always wanted to use her name as a mn when he had a daughter (I think he promised his dad)...... But I dont know if Lily Rose is to corny or not since they are both flowers..... She really would only be called Lily but her birth certificate would be with rose as a mn.... The only other thing I can think of is having her "formal name" be Lilianna and just call her Lily for short...... Its the only form of lily, I like..
Can you give me your opinion. Thanks everyone.

Hello and welcome.
I would never discount the sentiment behind this special name! However, if it bothers you, that's something to seriously think about. It's a wee-bit much, and most people will not realize why she is Lily AND Rose. On the flip side, most people will never know her mn.
My solution?
What is Rose's mn?
What is Lily's?
Liliana Rose definitely helps!
So would Lily Rosannah.
In the end, I'd switch one of the name to one of the grandmother's mn, go with one of the extended forms, or simply live with it. The specialness of the name is too strong to deny either grandmother's name.
Best wishes and let us know!

I don't think I've replied yet, although I've seen this thread pop up quite a few times. I'm sorry to say, if I saw a birth announcement or met a child named Lily Rose, I'd definitely think it was corny. TWO floral names are just a bit much.
I understand wanting to honor both grandmothers, but simply throwing them both together as one name seems to cheapen your reasoning, if that makes sense. If I were in your situation, I'd either use one now and save the other for a future dd or use a variation of BOTH Lily and Rose (because using a variation of only one might make it seem like less of an honor if you KWIM).
Something like Lillian Rosemary, Lilith Rosalind, Lila Roisin or Eliana Rosalie, nn Lily (I know you've gotten a lot of suggestions for Liliana, so thought I'd throw this one out there too ... less obvious, but worth mentioning).
Other alternatives (some of which may have been mentioned):
Elizabeth
Lilibet(h)
Lila
Lilias
Rosa
Rosabel(le)
Rosalba
Rosalia
Rosalina
Roseanne
Roisin (rosh-een -- Irish form of Rose)

I love the name Lily Rose.
Lily Rose is beautiful in my opinion and I do not think it is corny at all.
I think Lily Rose is fine if you really want to use it. However, I agree with some of the PP that there might be a better alternative. I really like the idea of using a more formal name like Lilian, Liliana, Lilianna, etc. and using Rose as a middle name. You can always use the nn Lily. OR use Lily but a longer version of Rose for the mn (Rosemarie, Rosalind, etc.)
HTH! Good luck!
