Yep, I much prefer names that have at least one built-in nn, and that has been a definite consideration for us in coming up with names for our children.
As a Stephanie, I always liked having the option to use my full name in more formal situations, but it's nice that my friends can call me Steph. And heck, most of my friends with shorter names ended up with nicknames of some sort anyway -- Hope became Hopey or Hoper, Jill became Jillian or Jilly, Tammy became Tammy J., etc.
My DDs are Megan, nn Meg, and Julianna, nn Annie. One of my favorite things about the name Julianna was its potential for so many nicknames so that she can "choose her own identity" when she's a little older.
I know many people don't like nicknames, but I love them!
