I love it. It's definitely in my top 5. It's pretty and classic and ages well. It has lots of nn possibilities and it's easily recognized without being overly popular.

My husband absolutely loves it. Now it's growing on me.
I think nn would be either Ella, Elle, or Ellie (I love Ella, but it's just too popular. I thought by giving it a full formal name, I always have other option.

Thanks.

Julie

P.S. my daughter's name is Abigail. It'll be like having a house full of first ladies. Funny.

I would use it for my expected daughter, but my brother has 3 kids with "E" names. I think Eleanor is a beautiful classy name. One problem, though, is that she will likely have LOTS of little "Ellies" or "Elles" in school with her, so you may want to choose a less common nn.

I really like it too and it was on my short list for DD2, but DH just wouldn't go for it. We ended up naming her Ellen which of course just seems even more perfect now, but Eleanor is very classy. GL!

I swear I posted this once already, but it never showed up...

I LOVE the name Abigail. And I think Abigail and Eleanor are perfect together. I think Eleanor is a good choice if you love the nns Ellie and Ella. That way you can use those names at home, but at school she can be Eleanor to her teachers so that she's not Ella B. or whatever. Personally, I really love the nn Nora. If I wind up with an Eleanor, I'll probably call her Nora.

OK Eleanor is one of my super favorites. But IMHO it gets ruined when NNs like Ella are used (i.e., trendy)

Thanks for your input. I really appreciate. The name is growing a lot on me. My husband has been trying to convince me for years.

I love the name Eleanor! LOL I love your comment of having a house full of first ladies even more! I am a HUGE history buff so I think this connection is adorable. I do have a great-aunt who is named Eleanor
