I know they are both "correct," but which do you prefer? I love the thought of Elinor after Miss Dashwood, and other literary Elinor's, but somehow it looks weird to me? MN would either be Mae or Maude. What do you all think?

I say Eleanor Mae. For one, I have a daughter named Sarah Eleanor (and Eleanor was the way my grandmother spelled it). and I just adore the name and the flow with Mae. GL

My DD is Eleanor Katherine- so it's apparent which spelling I like. I do love Elinor Dashwood-but also Eleanor Roosevelt, Eleanor of of Aquitaine & Ella Fiztgerald. We went with Eleanor spelling because it seemed more complete on paper. I like Eleanor Mae the best.

Elinor looks odd to me, too, so I suggest Eleanor.

Hi,

I really like the name but I think I prefer Elinor for the simple reason that Eli would make a cuter nickname. I'm not sure if you even want her to have a nickname but it's something to think about. I prefer Mae as a MN I have a niece named Julie Mae and think it's adorable.

Good luck!

I like them both alot. If I were to use the name, I'd use Eleanor I think.

If I were using it, I would go for Elinor because I love Sense and Sensibility more than Eleanor Roosevelt. So I'd say...it would depend on your reason for using the name. But if Elinor still feels hinky to you, there's no problem with going with Eleanor and saying you were inspired by Miss Dashwood.

Either spelling is good but I prefer the way Eleanor looks on paper.

I like Eleanor better, but I think it looks (not sounds, but looks- in print) awkward with Mae. Probably b/c the placement of the "e" and "a" are switched in each name.
