I love it! I had never heard it before and the little girl who sat behind us in church on Easter was named that. She was about 2 and georgeous and I heard her Mom say her name several times. I have loved Emma for a while, but worried it was too trendy, and thought that was a nice, quite different variation of a name I liked. I will be interested to see what people think when your poll results close :-)

Sorry, I don't like Emerson for a girl at all. I generally don't like surnames as fns on girls & since -son means son of, I just can't endorse it for a girl. If it's family, I'd useit in the middle.

my rule of thumb is:

no no NO names for girls that end in "-son". A son is a male child, and I don't want "-son" at the end of my daughter's name.

If for some crazy reason a name that ended in "-son" really struck my fancy, I'd probably change the "-son" to "-sanne".

Example:

Allison-- change to Alisanne.

Unfortunately, Emersanne looks kind of weird.

I also don't like it b/c it is a last name, and also...isn't it the name of a company that makes air conditioners?

Personally, I love it. I thought about naming ours Emmerson/Emmercyn Elisabeth, if it turns out to be a girl. One of the men on flight 93 (I think that's it) that went down on 9-11 had an infant daughter named Emmerson and I loved it. If I remember correctly, it has a strong meaning too.

If you like it, go with it. :)

Hugs,

Jenny

I am rather strictly opposed to surnames as first names (unless it is a family name), particularly for a little girl. Emerson also ends in -son meaning, well, "son." Emer is a perfectly legitimate Irish girl's name however.

Although I think it's a pretty name, I tend to shy away from girls' names that have 'son' in them, after all, they mean 'son of'....but Madison and Adison sure are popular!

I wouldnt use the name for my children but I do like the name. I like Emmercyn and dont think that the "son" on the end of it matters a great deal.

Love it!! It is one of our top 3 picks if we have a girl. We would call her Emmie for a nickname.
