i love the name Tess...but doesn't really come from Beatrix.
Trix does though, but it was not an option.
Trixie is cute.

I know Tess isn't a traditional nn for Beatrix (actually, besides Bea and Bebe, most of these aren't).

Of course, there are plenty of nns that ARE traditional that don't obviously "come from" the names they're often attributed to. Betsy or Lily for Elizabeth, Sadie for Sarah, Maisie or Peggy for Margaret, Jack for John or Dick for Richard, for instance. I do know how most of these came to be, but that doesn't mean they're obvious to anyone else.

Since my great-grandmother Beatrice went by Betty/Betsy/Bess throughout her life and my great aunt Beatrice was called Beatie (bead-ee), I feel pretty comfortable using something less obvious. Tess had been on the list in the past, and to be quite honest, doesn't seem that much of a stretch. It's admittedly less apparent with Beatrix (though I do prefer that form), but the "tris" ending of Beatrice sounds oddly similar to Tess. Not that far off at all ... just a matter of dropping the "r" sound. So that's how that ended up on the list (though I'll admit, I was surprised so many others liked it LOL).

Just felt an explanation might help. ;)
