If Carrington is a family name for you, I like it. If it's not, I think it sounds a bit silly and pretentious given that Carrington was the surname of the ridiculously wealthy oil-barren family on the primetime soap opera Dynasty.
I used to nanny for a little boy whose middle name was Carrington. It was a family surname that had been used as a middle name for the eldest child (boy or girl)
Thank you for your input. Carrie was my grandmothers name, she and I were very close and she passed away on my birthday a few years ago, and I wanted to keep her name alive. I also had no idea that the name Carrington was seen as pretentious or snobish. I have never watched Dynasty :)
Is it really that bad? If so maybe some suggestions on other ways to use the name Carrie/Keri.
Thank You
Angela

Well, like I said, I sort of like Carrington. However, having spent two years dealing with eye-rolling and snide comments, I wouldn't use it for my child.
I love that you want to honor your grandmother. Caroline is one of my favorite names in the world, so elegant and timeless. That would definitely be my choice. But here are some other names that you might want to consider:

I like Carrie, but I don't like Carrington at all. I got the whole snobby, Dynasty feel some others mentioned, and it also reminded me of a Gargoyle (maybe from that cartoon? I know there was a Lexington, not sure about Carrington LOL). I did just hear this name on TV today - a woman's 7-year-old dd - and I didn't care for it when hearing it on an actual child, KWIM? Of course, the girl's sister's name was Berkley, and until I saw it in writing I thought the woman was calling the poor child Barkley (like the dog on Sesame Street), so that may have made me like the name even less. LOL I'd say stick with Carrie or another similar name, like Caroline. ;)

I think it's pretentious if Carrington isn't a family name. It sounds like someone trying to sound like "old money." I'm not saying that that's why you've chosen it, only that that's what it sounds like to me.
If your grandmother's name was Carrie why don't you just use that? Caroline is one of my favorite names - beautiful and classical.
