I voted no because I don't like nn Carrie. I do like the full name Carrington, though.

Carrigan/Kerrigan would be a nice alternative.

I was surprised no one had suggested it yet, especially you, lol. That's the first thing I thought of when voting. I really like Carrigan, much more than Carrington and they are definitely similar to one another. Although I don't like the name Carrie but it does have a personal significance to the poster. If I was into nicknames and named a child Carrigan/Kerrigan I'd use Cara/Kara, but it's not about me. ;)

I have aunts and uncles that live in Carrington ND so I think of it as a name of a city. I have known a lot of people named Carrie and really like the name.

I love the name Carrigan/Kerrigan. I don't know why I hadn't thought of it. Thank you for the suggestion I am definitely using this name, but I am not sure which spelling I like better.

I'm glad I could help. If it matters at all, I prefer the Carrigan spelling. Do you know a mn that you're going to use? I thought I'd list the mn's I liked paired with Carrigan when I had once considered using it.

Carrigan Belle
Carrigan Brielle
Carrigan Harper
Carrigan Ivy
Carrigan Arly
Carrigan Tori
Carrigan Bree/Brie

I found it was a tough name to match with a mn. My favourite from this list is Carrigan Ivy and then Carrigan Belle or Carrigan Brielle.

I have to chime in that were I live (Boston area), Carrigan and Kerrigan are not pronounced the same. The "a" in Carrigan and the "e" in Kerrigan have different sounds. The names Carrie and Kerry are pronounced differently here so I wouldn't consider them interchangeable at all.

I wonder if you grandmother's name Carrie was actually a nn for a longer name like Caroline. You might be able to do a little research and find out. I'm not a big fan of the random-Irish-last-name-as-first-name trend (Carrigan, Cassidy, McKenna etc) so I'd go with a more classic, feminine name like Caroline or just name her Carrie.
