It works, but I don't think I like Finn for a girl.

Isn't Fiona actually short for Fionn which is also Finn in English? I thought I heard this somewhere.

If you want a nn for Fiona, Finn would be the obvious choice. Fiona has at least two possible origins, one of them being Fionn/Finn, so it would make perfect sense to me. I like it a lot! ;)

The poll response actually surprised me a bit on this one. I expected more people to take to the nn Finn for a girl. Interesting...

At any rate, I think it's pretty cute. I guess I'm used to thinking of Finn as unisex because I remember Wynona Ryder's character Finn in "How to Make an American Quilt." LOL

I voted yes because I think it makes perfect sense given the origin. However, I wouldn't do it. I think Fiona is lovely and I wouldn't plan to use a nickname for it. If it evolves, that's fine, but I wouldn't plan to call her Finn.

I do think Finn works for both boys and girls, though -- I have Finnian on my list for boys and Finley on my list for girls.
