NO, NO, NO, it's not too long and I LOVE this name for you! Wasn't I the one who suggested it? ;)

I don't believe a name CAN be too long.

I wouldn't condone giving a child a bunch of extra mns or anything like that, but as far as simply the fn/mn flow, I'm much more bothered by a short, abrupt name (like Max Paul in a birth announcement above, for example). Better you love both names and how they work together than abandon the name you love in favor of a shorter one. Lengthiness really isn't that problematic. Of course, none of my girls names are all that short -- they range from four to six syllables for the fn/mn combos. It's really never been an issue.

And Genevieve Cordelia is great, btw. ;)

Do your daughter a favor and don't name her that. It sounds like a romance novel character.

Wow. Thanks. But you needn't worry. I'm just fooling around with some names, but I'm not pregnant. Cordelia is a family name; actually, it's my great-grandmother's name. Genevieve has a family connection, as well, though it's more tenuous. My mother's middle name is Evaline, hence the "Eve" portion of the name. And Virginia is one of my great-aunts' names, but she's called Ginny, hence the "Gen" portion of the name.

I'm not sure where you're getting the "romance novel" connection, though. Cordelia is from Shakespeare's tragedy, King Lear. I'm not sure if you've read it, but let me tell you, a romance it IS NOT.

Yes, of course, Terra, you were the one who suggested it. I loved it at first sight, as I told you, but as I mentioned it to a few people, their first reaction was, "Wow. That's a really long name!"

I tend to agree with you and the other posters, though; it's not the length of the name that matters, but rather the substance of it. And I love this one.

I'm not worried about the length. But knowing your top two girls names, I don't think this one goes perfectly. It's a bit too frilly. Ruth Caroline and Adair Victoria are pretty, but in in a simple, solid way. I love that about them. Genevieve Cordelia just seems like a bit...much compared to them. I LOVE Cordelia and a middle name for you. And I love Genevieve, but just not with Cordelia. Actually, if you had FOUR girls, Genevieve would be another great middle name. But I'd pair each of them with a simpler first name.

I think these are both beautiful names! Together, though, it's a bit of a mouthful.

Absolutely love it! I've never seen this combo before but I think it sounds just beautiful. If I were having a girl I'd have to name steal this one from ya. And since you're obviously so good at this name game can you please name mine? Boy #2 due in 3 weeks!

Oh, it's such a great name. No no no way is it too long. Your last name isn't 13 syllables is it? :) Then it *might* be too long.
