I'm beginning to like the girl's name Gianna a lot. Most people pronounce it gee-on-uh, from what I've observed. I think it's a beautiful Italian name.
But...
I've always wanted my children to have names that are easy to pronounce, never going to have a problem with teachers or other kids at school or coworkers, etc. Is Gianna one of these names? Or if I have a dd named Gianna, will she have to keep pronouncing her name over & over for people to get it right?
Please let me know what you think. Thank you so much.

I'm sure she'll get an occassional person who sees her name in writing and assumes it is "Gee-ANN-uh" because they've never heard it before and/or don't know it's an Italian name. But I think that is an easy correction to make. ("Actually it's Gee-AH-nuh. It's Italian.) And I think anyone who HEARS her name before seeing it, will have no problems at all repeating/remembering it.
I really like Gianna. I don't think it's super hard to pronounce; although there may be a learning curve for those who aren't that familiar with it.
I don't think there's any surefire way to guarantee no mispronounciation. No matter how simple you might think a name is there will always be those people (not the brightest bulbs in the tree usually) that will muck it up. For example, my niece is named Julia (how easy is that??) and her step-grandmother, my sister-in-law's step mom, calls her Julie constantly. I don't think she'll run into this elsewhere, but she'll always have to correct this one person. I think you'd find the same if you picked Gianna, there will be some dunce that can't pronounce it no matter how many times you remind them.
I love the name Gianna!
Okay, thank you very much for your feedback everybody. Any other opinions are welcome of course.
Oh, & to mjandrew74, yes, I am Italian. I too think it would be strange for someone to use the name Gianna if they did not have any Italian heritage.
Thanks again!
