I voted Tessa Ann, but I really really love Lucia. I think this is such a great name that would work great as a child, ie., nn 'Lulu' or even professionaly. I guess it would depend on your last name and what fits best!

My husband and I really looked at this one but our last name starts with an L and gets mangaled all the time so we had to rethink this. We felt we be given her a tongue twister. I'm glad to see someone else considering it!

Good luck and really nice choices.

Thank you so much! Tessa has always been a favorite, but Lucia is really growing on me and DH's favorite. However, just tonight when DH and I were out for dinner, I said what about Mataya?? We both kinda like it!! It's different and could be shortened to Taya...which I love! Thanks again!

I think you have some great choices. I've long adored Tessa and it makes me happy to hear more people considering it now. Lucia is lovely. It's not a name I would consider (personally, I only think it fits a little girl of Italian/Spanish decent, which I am not) but it's a name I'd love to hear on someone else's child. Ditto Mattea which is gorgeous and underused. (But recognizeable enough that I don't foresee any major confusion over spelling/pronounciation) And I like the nn Tea as well. However, the Mataya/Taya spelling absolutely made me cringe. It looks to me like you heard it somewhere, thought it was pretty, and guessed at the spelling without taking into regard the language of origin. Please, please don't use this spelling. With the correct spelling, I think this is my favorite name of the bunch. But if this is the spelling that you are set on using, my vote goes categorically to either of the other choices.

I feel like I'm look at my short list of names.

My List:

Tessa nn Tess
Lucia nn Lucy
Mattea nn Tea or Mattie (Dh name is Matt)
Gianna nn Gia
Gemma

I voted for Tessa Ann. This is also my #1 choice.
I also love Mattea for you but only spelled Mattea. Mataya looks made up.
Great minds think a like. Great names!!
Good Luck

Hi Dawn...We really do think alike! Gia/Gianna was also on my list for awhile, but DH vetoed it! I still love it and think it's very pretty.

Good luck to you!

I don't really like the mn Ann with any of these, since they all end in A as well. Alone, however, I love Tessa, and like Lucia (are you saying Lu-cee-a or Loo-sha, btw?) and Mattea quite a bit. I can't really say much for the Mataya spelling, however. It looks like someone heard the name and didn't know how it was spelled, so they took a shot in the dark, KWIM? ;)

Hi Annie! Thanks so much for your response. You always have really great advice. I had really been wondering about the spelling for Mattea and just didn't know the best spelling to use. In fact, DH and I were discussing it this morning before I read your post and he came up with Mataja giving it more or a polish feel (he's polish and slavanian). Although, I think Mataja looks pretty, I also think people would really have a problem pronouncing it spelled this way. What do you think? I guess that was part of my reason for spelling it Mataya...pretty hard to look at it and not know that her name is mu tay a! But I do agree that Mattea is much prettier. Now I just have to convince my DH!! Tessa has always been my favorite, but I'm really starting to dig Mattea!! Lucia is very pretty, but I also agree with you about the spanish/italian thing. That has been my argument to DH all a long regarding using Lucia, as our last name is very polish sounding and I just do not think it works!

Thanks again for your advice!

p.s. I tried to edit my poll to show the spelling "Mattea", however it didn't work!

Hi Kelli,

I guess I've kind of felt the same about Ann not being the best middle name, however, I am set on using it. Normally, my baby girl's middle name would be after my Mom, however, because it's the same name as my DH's ex, that is just not acceptable to me! lol!!! =o) So, I am using Ann to honor my oldest sister whom I am very close to. Thanks for your input tho'! I do like the spelling Mattea better now too! Thanks!

Oh good, I'm so glad you like the Mattea spelling. I think it's so pretty. And although I understand your DH's inspiration, I think Mataja is just too confusing. I'd never pronounce that correctly. Mattaya is probably the most self-explanatory spelling, but I think Matteo/Mattea is becoming well known enough (though certainly not popular!) that you shouldn't have many issues with pronounciation.
