A girls name!
14
Mon, 11-27-2006 - 1:07am

I have two kids and I am pregnant with my third.
My daughter's name is Hannah Olivia and my son's name is William Quinn..he goes by Quinn.
If my next child is a girl.. I would like to name her Hayden Elizabeth. My husband is not crazy about the name. What do you guys think?? Is it too masculine? I would really appreciate your opinion.

Thanks!

Not only is it too masculine, but it falls right into the trendy -aden category- popular boys names such as Aidan, Caden, Hayden, Jaden, Brayden, etc. becoming unisex and now being popular on boys AND girls. It is all a bit too much.
Besides that, it doesn't go well with Hannah or Quinn at all.
A similar name to consider is Hadley.

Definitely masculine, especially since your dd does have a feminine name. If her name was Mason or something, Hayden would make more sense, but next to Hannah -- a classic, traditional girl name -- most will assume Hayden is all boy. Also, Hayden and Hannah are quite similar, both beginning with H and having prominent N sounds. I'd look for something else, especially since your dh doesn't like it anyway.

I love Hayden for a boy, I could see it on some girls but maybe feminize the spelling, like Haidyn??

I really like Hayden... for a boy. And next to Hannah and William, I would assume Hayden was a boy. If your other kids had unisex names, then it might work a bit better -- Reese, Avery, and Hayden sound more like siblings, IMO.

Sorry I couldn't be more positive!

Hayden doesn't go with the other Children's names.

I would go with one of

I personally really dislike masculine names on girls so, yes, I do think Hayden is not a very good name for your girl ... especially since your children have traditional names. A baby sibling "Hayden" to Hannah & William would most likely be assumed to be a boy.

I agree with the other posts that Hayden is too masculine with Hannah. If you love the name why don't you just flip it - Elizabeth Hayden - that's a cool name!

Elizabeth has so many nn options that go great with Hannah:
Eliza
Libby
Elle
Ella
Ellie
Beth
Liz/Lizzie

I like Hannah, Quinn, and Libby, what a great sib set that would be!

I love the name Hayden for a little girl. As well as a teenager, and a mature women. I never thought of it as a boy's name. It sounds too fem to me, to be a boy's name. Even though it's respectable for either gender. I plan on naming my little girl Hayden, inspite of the fact the OTHER people have such crazy hang-ups. They would suggest to you/ or I..........ALBA, MALBA????? Give me a break. If you like it as much as I do, I'd suggest you name YOUR Daughter what you feel is beautiful. And Hannah and Hayden sound beautiful together.
