Girl's name spelled Zoe... How would you pronounce it?

  • "Zo-ee" (like Joey)
  • "Zo" (like Joe)

Zo-EY, like Joey, IS how it's pronounced - there's not a vote here - that's how the name is pronounced

Wow! I can see you feel very strongly about this. Touched some sort of nerve apparently...

I'd heard the name Zoe (without the "ee") before and liked it. As our last name ends with a Y, it sounds funny with first names that end in "ee".

The Baby Name Wizard on the iVillage site lists 3 spellings: Zoe, Zoey and (gulp) Zoie. Maybe it'll just be too confusing. I'll see how the vote goes, but maybe spelling it Zo would be best.

Thanks for your input, harsh tho' it was.

Don't think soccer mom was harsh at all, she was just informing you. You don't pronounce Chloe like Joe, do you? Zoe is pronounce just like Joey.

Okay... Guess I'm a bit sensitive these days.

Looks like a landslide for pronouncing it with the "ee" sound at the end (as soccermom73 & wrennma63 have confirmed), so I ended the poll.

Maybe we'll make-up our own name, "Zo". I've seen much crazier names surfing around this board in the last few days!

Thanks for the input everyone!

If you really like the Zo pronounciation, I say go for it. I have a friend, actually, who plans to name her first daughter Zo after her DH's grandmother. I had never heard of that name before and assumed they were just mispronouncing Zoe until she explained that it was spelled Zo.
