Some of these would be ok (and some I've even seen used), but keep in mind a few would change the pronunciation. For example, Tarin I'd pronounce exactly like Taryn, while Terron I'd pronounce more like tear-ron (as in "tear" the paper, not "tear" in my eye LOL). Terrain would be way off ... prounounced more like tuh-rain (as in, terrain LOL). HTH!

Hmmm, interesting. I pronounce terrain like Taryn. I do like the spelling Taryn but my name being Terra I wouldn't mind doing something similar looking to that. I like Terran, dh likes it as well. Plus, I have a bunch of A mn's that can go with Taryn. :) I will post a poll with those shortly, lol.

Wow, maybe a regional difference? I'm from eastern PA, and I've only ever heard the word terrain (as in a piece of land ... not sure if I mentioned that before but it's the same spelling) as tuh-rain (Webster's agrees, so it must be an accent/dialect thing LOL). But if the word terrain is pronounced like Taryn where you're from I guess you might not have anything to worry about.

I guess I should also ask how you pronounce your own name. I had assumed like tear-an (as in tear the paper, again, or terra firma, terra-cota, etc. LOL), only because I have known three girls with this same spelling and that was how it was pronounced (in other words, not the same beginning sound as Tara, which where I live is a short A sound). From the differences in the other pronunciations, I'm guessing there may be no distinction where you're from, so Terra would be pronounced the same as Tara?? In that case I'd just say be aware you probably won't get the same pronunciation with a different spelling in other areas of the country, KWIM? Just a consideration. :)

I've only known three people with this name, two spelled it Taryn and the other spelled it Tarin, and went by Tari. I prefer Taryn, though.

I say my name 'tear-uh' - like you said, to tear paper, not tear as in to cry, lol. The spelling Tara is pronounced the same way here as my spelling Terra. I have heard of the pronunciation of Tara as 'tar-uh' but don't know of anyone that says it like that around here.
So, do you say Taryn like 'tear-in'? Or 'tar-in'? Taryn is derived from the name Tara.
I came across the name Terrene, how would you say that? 'Tear-ean' (ean like jean)?

Terra.

Do you live anywhere near Carlisle or Harrisburg? Just wondering, I've been to Carlisle, PA with dh to truck shows.

Wow, I'm surprised, too, that you pronounce terrain the same as Taryn. To me, terrain is ter-RAIN with the accent on the 2nd syllable, and Taryn is TAIR-in (rhymes with the name Karen).

Terran is okay, but I don't think it looks as pretty as Taryn. Also, some people might pronounce Terran as TERR-an, emphasizing the R's rather than that nicer A sound (if that makes sense). I also personally think it would be less confusing to have a Terra and Taryn in the same family rather than Terra and Terran. Of course, that's JMO.

Good luck making a decision!

Okay, now you have me second guessing how terrain is actually pronounced, lol. Maybe it's just me. I see your point on it being confusing to have a Terra and a Terran. I never really thought of that and the spelling could become confusing. I do like the way Taryn looks the best, more pleasing to the eye, IMO. Thanks for the input!

I agree with Kelly on the pronunciation issue. I would not pronounce all of these the same.

I would pronounce Taryn, Tarin, Taren, Taron, Terryn, Terrin and Terron as the tare-in pronounciation you are going for. Tarron I would probably say "Tahr-on" (similar to the "Tahr-a" pronounciation of Tara). And Terrain I would definitely pronounce as Tuh-rain, since that is a word I'm familiar with and I've never seen it as a name.

My favorite spelling is definitely Taryn. It's a name

Hi again, Terra! :) Yes, we do say Tara as "tar-uh" here (short A, not like the word tar or car). My sister's name is Dara, and that is a short A here as well (as in the beginning of Dad), although I have heard a few people unfamiliar with it try to pronounce it so the beginning rhymes with car or tar, but not many. We also say Taryn this way (tar-in with a short A) ... pretty much to rhyme with the boy name Darrin, if that helps LOL. I think it's how Taryn Manning says it as well.

I don't think I'd have a definite pronunciation of Terrene, but I wouldn't say it like the soup bowl. ;) If I didn't know for sure, I'd probably think it was either a shorter first syllable, like tuh-ren, or a short last syllable, like tear-en (pretty close to Taryn, but I'd still pronounce the E instead of A sound). I was thinking if you're trying to incorporate your name into hers, the Tarren spelling (which is basically your name with the vowels switched and an N added) you have listed may be your best bet (although I still think most will prefer the regular Taryn, but if you're planning on altering it anyway I think this will be pronounced the same as Taryn by many, maybe with a slight difference between the -an and -in sounding ends, but nothing too noticable).

I live a few hours from Carlisle (actually just an hour from Philadelphia), but I am familiar with it because I went to camp out there a few times. ;)
