This name thing seems so much harder this time.
Hi there, Tina. What a cute little boy you have. :) Here are my thoughts on the lists-
His boy list:
Logan -This is fine. I like it a lot w/Caden. They're both five letters, & are the same style.
Mason -Same as above. Mason is probably a bit less popular though.
A.J. (but doesn't know what it would stand for or if it would just be A.J.) -Hm...initial names can be cute, but it really helps if they stand for something! Are there any special family members or friends that you'd like to honour that has an A or J name?
Riley -I like this a lot, & it's perfect w/Caden. It's getting sort of popular for girls now, but it's all masculine imo.
Sawyer -This is refreshing. It's a nice match w/Caden, & just a cool name.
Quinten -This isn't awful, but it's nms. Try saying Caden & Quinten together. Tricky!
Zack-I love this, but perfer Zachary nn Zac. It's alright w/Caden, but not as good as some of the others.
My top 5 (at least today)
Max -I love it, but perfer it as a nn.
Jackson (Jack) -I like Jack a lot, but Jackson not so much.
Samuel (Sam) -This is very handsome & classic. It may be a little too classic next to the more hip Caden, but it's still a good name.
Parker -This is really nice for you.
Griffin-This isn't bad, but it seems sort of harsh.
His girl list:
Samantha (I have to add here that he has a 2nd cousin Samantha with the same last name as us.) -Heh, I'd stay away from it then. It's a fine name, but no need for all of the confusion.
Ashley -I could never get on board w/this name.
Kristi-Blech & same as above. This is terribly dated too. If you were to use it, at least make it a nn for Kristina.
Dani-Eh, that's okay. Danielle nn Dani would be perferable, but it's still nms. I actually really like Danica & Daniella though.
My top 5 (Again at least today)
Lydia -Beautiful!
Miriam (Mimi) -Aw, that is precious. I don't know about how it fits w/the style of Caden, but it's a great name.
Cora -Same as above.
Amelia -And again.
Alaina (Lainey)-This I like (perfer Elaina), & think that Caden & Lainey can work really well for siblings.
Hope this helps!
His boy list:
Logan - somewhat unisex these days, but I still like it better for a boy
Mason - not bad, not overly popular, you won't hear it a lot
A.J. (but doesn't know what it would stand for or if it would just be A.J.) this is a BAD idea, just the initials with no names.
Riley - waaaay to "gone to the girls" do not use this for a boy
Sawyer - aaah. I just don't like it
Quinten OK, not one I like a lot
Zack - LOVE Zachary, not Zack alone.
so , of his top five my picks would be 1) Zachary; 2) Mason
My top 5 (at least today)
Max - NO NO NO - too many, too preppy, too yuppy, too many names it's a nn for
Jackson (Jack) -not crazy for it, got too popular recently
Samuel (Sam) - I personally am not a Samuel, Sam fan
Parker - LOVE this one
Griffin - like this one
so, of your top five my picks would be 1) Parker; 2) Griffin
His girl list:
Samantha (I have to add here that he has a 2nd cousin Samantha with the same last name as us.) -NO then
Ashley - way toooo late 80s, 90s. soooo many of them from that era.
Kristi - almost more 70s, 80s-ish
Dani - not by itself - Dannah - I know two of them, I think it's really cute
so, of his top five there my pick would be 1) Dannah, nickname Dani.
My top 5 (Again at least today)
Lydia - I have always intensely disliked this name
Miriam (Mimi) - wow, really old
Cora - ditto
Amelia - OK, nn Amy would be good here
Alaina (Lainey) - like this one.
so my picks from your list would be 1) Alaina; 2) Amelia if nn Amy
good luck
Best of luck!

Have you ever considered Carter? That seems to be a mix of both of your naming types. I liked some on his and some on yours..both of you had names from my list. Carter would also go with Caden.

Wow,
When I read your two boy lists I thought, there's plenty of common ground here... I'm sure they'll find something they both love, but GOOD LUCK if you have a girl! Sounds like he still loves the names of pretty girls he went to school with :)
Still, it's sooo nice that he sat down and made lists for you (mine won't, and insists that I just 'suggest names' which he then usually shoots down), so I shouldn't be so harsh :)
Anyway, I love Sawyer for a boy (with a good solid traditional mn, because there are some girl Sawyers out there). That's definitely my top pick from your combined boys' list. I also like Quentin, but the spelling Quinten makes me feel like I need to slow down to make sure a pronounce it right. That could just be me :) Parker is another fine choice that would go well with Caden. I think, although I love Jack, Max and Sam (all as nn's) that they don't go as well with Caden, but I don't suppose that really matters in the grand scheme of things.
I LOVE your girls' list. All of them. I was going to say "especially..." but just all of them. But I think there's maybe some room to play with dh's choices and tweek them to your style. I like the suggestion of Dani short for Danica or Daniella. Or Christi short for Christina or Christabel (a friend suggested this one to me recently and I really like it!) On the other hand, maybe he'll come around to your ideas if you suggest some cute nnn's to go with them?
Can't wait to hear what you come up with in the end. (Sorry this was such a novel!)
All the best!
Jodi
I had to respond since my daughter's name is on your list!
