I voted no. I like the name, but for me it is inextricably tied to the actress. I personally wouldn't use it because it would be annoying to me to have constant references back to Gwyneth Paltrow, but that may not bother you.
I personally prefer Guinevere...such a beautiful name. That would have been my first son's name if he was a girl. Gwyneth makes me think Paltrow. But I guess most people would not like the strong medieval association with Guinevere. Genevieve is nice too, but I guess Ginny would be a more likely nn for that.
I do think if you choose Gwyneth, that Gwyn would be fine for a nn, but there is nothing wrong with altering the spelling either. I probably would have used Gwen myself, instead of Guin for Guinevere.

Now, If I were to name her Apple, then that would be taking it too far, LOL....
Gwyneth is one of the top two names on my sister's girl list (the other is Helena nn Laney). At first I wasn't sure about it, but the more I thought of it the more it grew on me. Now I really like it, so I voted awesome.
As for the Gwyneth Paltrow thing, someone will always have an association with your child's name. If it's not a celebrity, it will be an old classmate or a political figure. So I wouldn't worry about it. Your child will make the name her own in no time.
