Hard decision

  • Should I name the baby after me - a name I like
  • Or name the baby after my late mother- a name I don't like so much
  • Please post if you have good advice!

My husband and I have a first name picked out from long ago. That will not change.

I don't think middle names are that important in some ways. After the birth announcement no one will remember anyhow. Think of your close friends. How many of their middle names do you know?

My Dad would love to have a grandchild that honors my mom's name. That counts for a lot. But....both my husband and I think my first name sounds much better with the name we have picked out. Also our son has my husband's first name as his middle name. I would like to continue this tradition.

Please advise!

On this occasion I'd say go with what you like / want and don't give into guilt

I know all of my friends' middle names.I think it is important to have middle names to help individualize us.I would love to give my kids 3 names.

Two of my SILs have only first names. One renamed herself Arwen. The other added Gabrielle as a middle name. Both say they grew up wishing for middle names.

I would remember that your mother chose your name. It would honor her to use yours. My sister was given a family name my mother did not like for a similar reason. 30 plus years, my parents and sis still regret that decision.
