I have always loved the name Emily for a little girl. However, my brother in law just named his 3rd daughter Kristen Emilie. Now do you think it would be inapporiate to give my daughter the name Emily as a first name? The spelling would be different because he used the French spelling (wife is French Canadian) and they only ever call her Kristen.
What do you all think?

that's too bad, I wouldn't feel comfortable giving my child part of her cousin's name - but it is your call. I would go with something similar:
Emilia
Amelia
Eliana
Emma
Elise
Eva
good luck,
Brooke
Melissa
Mom to Scott Nicholas, Wyatt Christopher, and Phoebe Jane
It wouldn't be the hugest problem in the world, but to be honest, I would avoid Emily altogether. It is so popular and expected- I have to let out a sigh every time I hear ANOTHER Emily (or Emma).

Thank you all for replying. I'm still not sure I would name my daughter Emily, it's just a name I've always liked. I know a lot of you are concerend about the popularity but it's really not as popular where I live. I live in Quebec, Canada, which is a French speaking province so Emily only ranked 73rd in 2006.
Lately, I've been into Brooke, but my DH isn't convinced.
