Help! Cant decide on middle name.

I'm going to be having a girl and I'm due in April... I'm pretty sure were going to go with "Ivy" as the first name and "Dean" is the last name, but I cant decide on a middle name that sounds good.

So far, my fiance's mom has been telling everyone were naming her Ivy Olivia Dean... but I dont like that combination very much... we've also thought about Ivy Alexis Dean which is my fiance's mother's name... I like the name Alexis but I dont really care for his mom... I know that sounds horrible but I dont want to be reminded of his mother when I look at my daughter. lol She acts like she's the one who is naming the baby and I cant think of any good middle names. Any suggestions?! Help please!

ha ha... well, I certainly can appreciate your dilemma! First of all, I don't like Olivia with Ivy (LOVE Ivy, BTW!); probably because of the "V", so you don't have to worry about taking your MIL's suggestion there! I do like Alexis, but wouldn't do it for the fact that it was my MIL's name if you don't necessarily get along. Is it too close to do Alexa maybe? Or Alexandra since Ivy is so short?

With a short first name and last name, I would pick a longer middle name. I don't care for Ivy Olivia (too many 'v' sounds) and I wouldn't choose Ivy Alexis to honor his mom, if you're not totally on board with it.

Ideas:

Ivy Alyssa
Ivy Michelle
Ivy Catherine
Ivy Juliette
Ivy Nicole
Ivy Cassandra
Ivy Rebecca
Ivy Celine
Ivy Danielle
Ivy Jordana
Ivy Brielle
Ivy Helene
Ivy Monique
Ivy Caroline
Ivy Simone

Good luck. I have a MIL who wanted to name all my children for me too. It's frustrating.

I woulnd't do Alexis either! You totally would be reminded of her. And how dare she act like she's in charge of naming your child. Back off...sheesh!

Here would be my three faves:

Ivy April Dean

Ivy Elizabeth Dean

Ivy Savannah Dean

Good Luck!

I wouldn't use your MIL's "suggestion" - or her name for that matter. lol Unless you're determined to make a tradition of using family names for your children, I wouldn't use one now (and then feel like you "had to" with the next one, whether there was a name you liked or not, KWIM?). Doesn't seem like you're attatched to Alexis, really, so I'd keep looking. :)

With such a short fn and ln, I'd go for something longer in the middle. My initial thought was Elizabeth, if that suits her. ;) I know there are a few name sites where you can search for names with a certain number of syllables. Maybe you could go on a few and look for names with 3 or 4 syllables and make a list from there (and I'm sure everyone on here would be happy to help you narrow it down lol).

HTH!

I like the idea of a longer middle name as well. I wouldn't go with any part of the name unless you absolutely loved it and this is coming from someone who loves the name Alexis ;) (you'll know when ya look down). So far my fave is Elizabeth.

Ivy Elizabeth Dean (gorgous!)

Ivy Rebecca Dean

Ivy Melaina Dean

Ivy Caroline Dean

Geez, I am not doing very good today I can only come up with a handful. Prego brain! LOL, well I hth's a little bit.
