I don't know if this matters to you, but "Zadie" is grandfather in Yiddish.

I know, but it is usually spelled Zayde. I love the author Zadie Smith and my DH loves the name, so we are over the yiddish issue.

Actually I think that Zaydie/Zadie can be spelled either way. My grandfather always signed his cards to us "Zadie."

I am aware of Zadie Smith.

The reason I even mentionned it was that my BIL lived in England and his first wife was English. One of her son's was named "Illinois." They all came over here for the wedding and I mentionned that I was from Illinois. New SIL had no idea what I was talking about. She and her first husband had named their son after Illinois Jacquet (I'm not sure if I'm spelling it correctly). He was a famous jazz musician. They had no idea from where the name came of that Illinois had any other meanings.

Zara is one of my favorite names! I'm glad someone else likes it.

If you want to call her Zadie though (which is also nice), use that as a first name so she's not having to say "Well my real name is....". I have one of those names and I wish my parents would have just picked one or the other.

I rather like Zara. But I don't think it sounds good with Leslie. So I voted for Charlotte. Zara Charlotte or Zara Catherine would get my vote.
