Honest opinion on Ruby?

My paternal grandmother's name was Ruby. She was truly one of the greatest women I have ever known. She died during my junior year in high school, so she never got to see me graduate from H.S. or college or see me get married. She obviously won't be here to meet this baby, and I can't think of a better way to memorialize a wonderful woman than to use her name (Ruby.) I absolutely love it, but I'm curious what other people's first reactions are. It's obviously a very OLD fashioned name. We are considering these middle names:

Ruby Lynne (both of our mother's middle names are Lynne)
Ruby Christine (DH's sister's middle name)

What do you all think?

Old names are back in style now. It is different and meaningful. I do not think it will be out of place at all.

I really like Ruby Lynne. My first thought is of an older lady but my dd had a best friend named Ruby in preschool and the name fit her so well. Some older names need to never come back, but Ruby is not one of them.

I really like the flow of Ruby Christine, and the name has special meaning to your family, so I think its great! A lot of old fashion names are IN now, not that it matters because it depends on what you love. Good luck.

I just voted to say it was ok. But now that I see all the family connections, I think it would be a very nice name for you. (I was going to ask if they were family names when I saw this post.)

I love Ruby!
I don't think that the middle name matters too much. I've always chosen on the basis of family/friendships and not what necessarily 'sounds' the best. I believe it is more the honour and sentiments when a middle name is used in someone's memory.

to me it's very old, outdated

not a classic that has come back

sorry, it's probably my least favorite of the color/gem/ etc. names - for some reason I just visualize a frumpy old lady - probably knew someone like that with that name at one time or something

I had a great-aunt named Ruby & she was a real pistol! not even 5ft. tall & just full of energy-she has since passed away. I think it would be a really cute name, I like Ruby Lynne the best but Christine is nice too. I picture a really cute little girl with alot of spunk!

I think Ruby is an absolutely ADORABLE name! I've thought of using it myself. It's unique without being kooky and feminine without being frilly. I LOVE it and the fact that it has such meaning to you too. As for the middle name - either is great!
