I LOVE the name Dane. Ever since the character Dane from the book "The Thorn Birds", it's been one of my favorites. If you haven't read the book, I highly recommend it!

Dane fan, here! Great name, rarely heard, sounds cute on a child and strong on a man. It's a name a boy won't ever feel is too "grandpa" or too trendy. It slides in nicely with the 1000s of Jacks, Maxs, Sams, etc.

I generally like the name Dane, but wouldn't use it myself for two reasons...

1. I think it is getting very popular, at least in this area.
2. I am not Danish, and have no relatives from Denmark. To me, Dane means someone from Denmark, Finn means someone from Finland, etc. I know that they are also names, but I personally wouldn't use them for that reason.

Notwithstanding those two issues, it is a good, one-syllable boy's name.

I like it with Robert as a mn.

LOVE it! It sounds so strong to me, and I don't think you have to be Danish in the slightset bit to use it. I say go for it!

Thanks, I am definitely NOT Danish but love the name. Anyways, aren't there a lot of people out there who are naming their children things like "Alabama"?! LOL Could be worse.

Yeah, I completely agree... I have seen *tons* of place names popping up lately- Alabama, Paris, Camden, Carolina, Washington, Virginia, etc. I even heard of a Jhamaica today. Not to mention names like Christian and Roman (not to say I don't like these names, but they do give a stereotype). So since these names are so popular, I definately don't see Dane being a problem.
