Well, it was good enough for these dignitaries (MN, at least):

http://bioguide.congress.gov/scripts/biodisplay.pl?index=L000393 (Congressman, scholar, respectable dude, known for opposing the League of Nations)
http://bioguide.congress.gov/scripts/biodisplay.pl?index=L000394 (Congressman, ambassador, Nixon's first VP candidate, grandson of the above, respectable dude)

Of course, it's a family surname for them. If it's really meaningful to you, then go for it. Personally, it's NMS.

I like it. It's different, but certainly not weird?

It is a family name - as a middle name. I just wasn't sure about it being a first name. His middle name would be Henry because of a grandfather who my husband loved very much.
Thanks for the help so far!!

Huh, Cabot, eh? Surprisingly enough, I seem to like it! Didn't make me cringe and say "poor kid" so that is a good sign! Cabot Henry you said? Sounds nice. Good choice, especially being family names.

I like it. It is different but not weird, but sounds like a very strong boy name to me. I love it actually the more that I sit here and say it. Good luck!

I live in the Boston area. When I think of Cabot, I immediately think of the "Boston Brahmin" Cabot family. Here's a poem often quoted around here:

"So this is good old Boston. The home of the bean and the cod.
Where the Lowells talk only to the Cabots. And the Cabots talk only to God."

What a neat poem. Thanks everybody for your responses, you have really helped. I'm worried about people calling him Cabby or Cab for short, and I would hate that. But on the other hand, I do like strong names - so maybe that will outway the bad that can go along with it.

Thanks again y'all.

Like Easteregg I am also from the Boston area and immediately think of that poem. Being from this area, and having been to Vermont numersous times, I also think of cheese.

But since it's a family name and will be used as a MN I think it's great.

I kind of like it. it's been used as a little boy's name on the soap opera, As The World Turns - it was the mother's maiden name

it really grew on me during that storyline
