How would you pronounce Aveline?

  • I've-leen

  • av-uh-line (long i - like Adeline with a v)
  • ava-line (like Ava+line, long i)
  • Other (please explain)
  • Some people seem to have different ideas

  • Just wanted to see how people would naturally pronounce it
  • Thanks!

Before reading your choices my 1st guess would have been...

Ava-leen

My first thought was actualy Av-uh-lyn. But after considering it for a moment, I thought it would be Av-uh-line.

I would have said av-uh-leen, too.

I would prounounce it a-vi-leen, with the "a" like apple. It is kind of like Abilene, TX to me.

I think it is a pretty name.

When I first saw it, I read it as av-uh-lean, but then quickly thought that maybe it was av-uh-line.

Thanks so much to everyone who's been voting. I think this is my favorite of the choices (at least for now), mainly because I like a lot of them about equally, but this one doesn't really have the popularity factor of some of the others (ie. Abigail, Ava and Amelia). However, a few people I'd mentioned it to either thought it was too hard to pronounce or saw it in writing and said they would pronounce it differently. The Gaelic pronunciation would technically be I've-leen, but we don't use the traditional Koit-leen or Kotch-leen for our daughter Kaitlyn, either, so we'd rather use the Anglicized form. Anyway, thanks for the input. :)

I immediately thought it was pronounced av-uh-leen. That wasn't an option though! Guess I'm weird!
