I'm guessing you don't need much input, since everyone seems to know how to pronounce it, but I grew up with a girl named Danae and if anyone stumbled over pronunciation they'd simply explain it was "de-NAY ... to rhyme with Renee."

Interesting. I typed it in and she pronounced it du-NAY-ee.

I really like the name Danae (pronounced du-NAY)as a middle name for Lydia. I think what I like most about it is the emphasis on the second syllable. I think I'll try and go look up other names that are emphasised on the second syllable.

Namenerds has a big list of these. Here's the link (it's farther down on the page).

Interesting that the recording pronounced it wrong. It's definitely duh-NAY, just as you like. I have a cousin with this name, and I've always thought it was pretty. If asked about pronounciation, I usually say "rhymes with Renee" and that clears it up.

I agree that a two-syllable named with the emphasis on the second syllable would be a perfect match for Lydia. I really love Lydia Danae because Danae is so interesting and underused.
