I really like Matteo BTW.
Good luck!!
Yes, the other option is Matteo, which is my first choice. I just wanted to narrow the field a bit to present all options to DH before I try to convince him that my choice is his choice. LOL!!
What I find interesting is that so many ppl are exhalting "Kyler" as a great boy's name, but Kylen (just with the spelling "Kailen") is too girly? I think there are a lot of names going around right now where the kids are going to have a tough time with gender associations: Aiden, Jaden, Caden, Hayden, Brayden, Devin, Logan, Taylor, Tyler, Jordan, and Morgan to name a few.
As an educator, I completely appreciate where you are coming from. As a mom, it bothers me about as much as it does for my DD Kris and my DS Alex. (Which is to say, not at all.)
But I do appreciate your input. And I am glad you like Matteo. I do too! (I just hope DH shares our enthusiasm!)
This was not a question of how you feel about my choice of first names. I could really care less how many female Kylins people know. It is a strong and unusual enough name, that my son will do fine with it. ("Kai" being a very common Hawaiian MALE name!) My only question was what MN flowed well with it.
Thank you for offering your opinion. But I'll stick with my own feelings on the name.
much too girly either way. would you consider Kyler instead? at least its familiar as a boys name.
good luck. I like Noah the best of your middle name choices. I like Luke a lot, but it doesn't sound right coming off the very prominent L in Kailin (or Kyler which I'm suggesting) for that matter.
Nope, won't do Kyler, because we have an ~i~Skylar. We actually toyed with the idea of using Jaylen, which is a variation on our other ~i~DD's MN, because I had seen it so often used as a boy's name.
Why is it people have a much easier time using boy's names for girls, but are quick to criticize what they think is a feminine sounding boy name? It's not a common name, as if I were trying to call him "Madison" or something. I really didn't expect this kind of backlash for choosing a meaningful, gender-neutral name like this.
Interesting where the opinions fall....
I do think it is a bit feminine, but only because when I see it I want to say "Kay-lin". Maybe the spelling Kylan would work? But I do LOVE the boy's name Kai, so if you were wanting to use that as a nn, I can see why you chose the other spelling. I think Kai works on its own as well...
I also know a boy named Rylan...
How about Kai Matteo? I think that sounds very musical!

My feelings are not hurt over this, believe me! I was just thinking out loud about how all I asked was for a MN opinion, and all of a sudden so many are telling me what they think of the first name! I appreciate all the input, but I know what I like. My choices are between Matteo and Kailen--all the opinions in the world aren't going to change that. It's a matter of finding the right combo for this baby.
The bottom line will be if my DH likes it, if it flows well with our last name, and if this baby "feels" like it should have the name we have chosen. (At the moment, Matteo is winning that race!)
BTW, I love the name "Rylan"... DH shot it down!
1. nobody will ever get the pronounciation right with that spelling. It looks like Kay-lin.
2. No matter how you pronounce it, Ky-lin or Kay-lin, it's a very feminine name.
All of your mn options that would make great first names. My personal fav is Noah. hth,
Shannon
