In thinking of first & middle names, how much consideration do you put into what
word/acronym the initials could make? (For example, I.L.L., B.U.M., etc.)
I am inquiring because one of set of names my DH & I are thinking of would make A.O.L. My DH thinks that I'm over thinking it but I don't know. The middle name is "runner-up" to the first name but we really would like to still use it. Input?

I don't think A.O.L. would be a problem. I would try to avoid anything derogatory, like F.A.T., B.A.D., P.I.G., but otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree with the previous post. I usually go with the combo that sounds the best, but in my case and some others, a little thinking was required .
EX:
My LN is Phillips. At first - I wanted to name my 3rd dd Phoebe(love the name), but I didn't want her to have the intials "pp". My 2rd dd wanted Isabella Phoebe , which is just as bad - "IPP"
However, my oldest dd initals are AMP.

I put pretty much NO thought into that, possibly because our last initial is E so it probably wouldn't spell anything anyway. But, really, I never thought of it w/ all 4 of my babies.

PS: I wouldn't be too worried about "AOL".

Hi there,

I do put thought into the initials the first, middle and last name make and am glad to see other people do too! I know of someone who named her little boy Dilon Victor Smith (D.V.S.) and obviously didn't think about the initials (say it out loud if you don't get it.)

I don't think there will be a problem with AOL though. There is nothing negative about it and who knows, by the time your child gets to the age where his/her peers will pick on things like that, America Online may not exist!

Cheers!
